Child Safety Regulations and What They Mean for You
Motorized window treatments have been the new frontier for quite some time now, and that won’t change anytime soon – especially with the updated Child Safety Standard regulations that went into effect on June 1 of this year. But what exactly are these new standards, and how do they impact you?
Child Safety Standard ANSI/WCMA A100.1-2022
To sum it up, the law updates safety standards for window coverings, requiring that they must not have cords that could entangle children and pose a risk of strangulation. If a cord has to be used for the operation of the window covering, the treatment has to have a tensioned hold-down device permanently attached and mounted to the wall. This hold-down device prevents any loose or dangling cords from being within a child’s reach.
We understand that these new regulations may initially seem overwhelming and could give the impression that they limit your clients' options. However, we view them as an opportunity for improvement—offering a chance to refresh designs and enhance user experience. Let us explain how.
The Key to Effortless Operation
Motorization is the hot topic right now, and for good reason! We’d recommend motorization to any designer looking for a hassle-free option for their clients. There’s just something so perfect about outfitting an entire room with motorized window treatments. The ease of effortless operation, the sleek, modern aesthetic they bring to any space, and the elimination of pesky cords make them an attractive option. Plus, they’ll never have to deal with tangled cords again. Simply charge the motor and remote, and voilà – they’re all set for smooth, hassle-free control at the touch of a button!
Finding the Right Window Covering for Your Client’s Home
If your client isn’t thrilled with the allure of motorization, there’s still a handful of options for them. They can select from the best custom hard treatments on the market, from woven wood shades to roller shades and more with mounted cord designs, or they can even opt for a cordless option. If we’re fabricating their Roman shades, we can mount the cord to the wall in accordance with the new regulations to still achieve the look they desire. We’ll work with you to find a solution that works best for your design and your client.
